Acoustic insulation to reduce airborne noise transferring through floors
DFM has been proven over many years to be
the ideal soundproofing insulation material for most applications where noise
attenuation or noise absorption is needed - in Soundproofing in the home,
commercial, manufacturing, industrial and environmental situations. In addition
to its acoustic properties, its well known thermal insulation and fire
protection performance are inherent benefits. DFM is ideal
for use as an infill in stud framework for walls, between floor joists and
suspended ceilings. Its main purpose is to reduce airborne noise by absorbing
the noise and reducing reverberation inside the cavity it is placed.

DATA SHEETDFM used in Floors and Ceilings
DFM will improve the sound reduction of a floor or ceiling against airborne noise. The cavity between the joists should be insulated with the 100mm DFM, the density used should be 80kg for most domestic applications. Building Regulations stipulates a minimum of 45kg density for new builds and conversions.
DFM products are manufactured to a higher density
than other mineral wool slabs and provide improved acoustic control across a wide range of
frequencies.
These slabs should not be confused with thermal insulation which comes
in roll form. Typical thermal insulation will only have a density of
approximately 15kg/m3. We supply and recommend the slab form only, which
can vary in density, starting at a minimum of 45kg/m3. This density is
the key to the superior reduction which the acoustic mineral wool
provides over the thermal roll insulation.
