What is Airborne Noise
Airborne noise is most commonly in the form of people talking, television and music.
With so many different types of construction and with so many properties being converted from houses to flats it means airborne noise between properties is a major issue.
In a timber floor construction airborne noise will generally travel through the cavity between floor and ceiling. This is the weakest area in the construction and should be the first area that is treated when trying to resolve this problem. By adding extra mass into that area you will reduce and absorb the airborne noise.
Other methods for reducing the noise would be to use the materials that reduce noise travelling through the structure, usually this is achieved by decoupling the ceiling from the joists, sound breaker bars are very good at achieving this effect.
