Short Description
Fire Performance
Polyfoam Supadeck contains a fire retardant additive. When installed in a roof construction it will not contribute to the development stages of a fire. Ensure the boards are not stored or installed close to open flame or other ignition sources, also avoiding volatile compounds and chemicals such as solvents.
Thermal insulation
Polyfoam Supadeck uses a high performance insulant, with aged quoted thermal performance values. It is specially designed to achieve the Building Regulations requirement for 0.16W/m2K U-Value in loft insulation applications.
Moisture resistance
Polyfoam Supadeck is in a cold roof space, but below the waterproofing, if any moisture is present, the insulation board is highly resistant to moisture absorption. The chipboard facing material is a moisture resistant grade chipboard.
Compression Resistance
All materials are compressed under load. Whilst ceiling joists are not designed to carry large loads, the insulation in Supadeck has to be capable of withstanding the applied point loading of the ceiling joists when loaded with storage items. Moreover, the chipboard is a high strength chipboard capable of withstanding the expected loads. Polyfoam Supadeck is highly resistant to compression and withstands the long term static loads imparted in loft storage.
Handling and Storage
Polyfoam Supadeck is supplied on pallets, labelled with identifying product and manufacturing data. Polyfoam products should not be left exposed to prolonged sunlight as this will result in surface degradation. Where outside storage for extended periods is required cover with opaque/light coloured sheeting. Ensure they are not stored close to open flame or other ignition source, also avoiding volatile compounds and chemicals such as solvents.
Application
Polyfoam Supadeck has been specifically designed and developed for thermal insulation and decking for storage of loft spaces in pitched roofs. When laid over ceiling joists with 100mm Crown Wool between, this achieves a U-value of 0.16 W/m2K. In refurbishment projects the existing glass mineral wool insulation is likely to be between joists, if this is 100mm lay Polyfoam Supadeck over ceiling joists. If this is not to 100mm simply top up and then lay Polyfoam Supadeck over ceiling joists. Polyfoam Supadeck is:
  • lightweight yet high strength
  • tongue and groove to achieve a flat professional finish
  • thermally efficient (achieves a U-value of 0.16 W/m2K)
  • easy to get through loft hatches
  • simple to fix
  • able to span 600mm joist centres
Ceiling joists are not designed to take a floor load, care must be taken to ensure the load imparted on the ceiling is not excessive. If you are in any doubt as to the condition and strength of the ceiling joists seek professional advice.

All guidance U-value tables in this document are based on BS EN 6946

*Please note Supadeck potential design load is higher than typical design load for ceiling joists, always ensure the structure can support the extra load of storage in the loft. If in doubt consult a qualified engineer.
