Short Description
Standards
The mineral wool of Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab is non-combustible inorganic rock wool, defined as mineral wool in BS 3533, manufactured in accordance with BSI Quality Assurance Standard BS EN ISO 9001: 2000.
Fire Performance
Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab is classified as Euroclass A1 to BS EN ISO 13501-1.
Thermal Performance
Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab has a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK.
Permanence
Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab is rot proof, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria, and is odourless and nonhygroscopic.
Moisture Resistance
Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab is non-wicking when tested in accordance with BS 2972:1989 Section 12. When exposed to 90% relative humidity and 20ºC Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab absorbs less than 0.004% of moisture.
Handling and Storage
Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab is supplied in weatherproof Supakube packaging, on non-returnable wooden pallets. This makes Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab very easy to unload, ideal for outside storage which frees up internal stock space.
Application
For the thermal insulation of concrete ground floors.
Installation
Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab should be installed with all joints closely butted together and laid on a damp proof membrane over sand blinded hardcore.

A 25mm strip of Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab should be installed vertically around the perimeter of the floor and to the same depth as the concrete slab.

A lapped building paper should then be laid over the complete layer of Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab.

For screeded floors Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab is installed above the concrete slab with a 25mm strip of Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab installed vertically to the perimeter of the floor and the same depth as the screed.

A lapped building paper should then be laid over the complete layer of Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab. A minimum 65mm sand and cement screed is required for dwellings and 75mm for other buildings.

Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab can also be laid directly on to a solid concrete floor and be overlaid with flooring grade chipboard. Timber battens should be installed to the perimeter of the floor and at door thresholds to support the board edges.

A vapour control layer should be installed between Rocksilk Thermal Floor Slab and the chipboard sheet. In this application the surface of the floor should be smooth and flat to within 5mm when measured with a 3 metre straight edge.
