Description

A single resilient layer can be used to achieve Part E compliant acoustic performance. The resilient layer to be 10mm Polyfoam Floorfoam 10. The main floor structure to be a precast concrete plank or slab, with all joints fully grouted. The structure must have a minimum mass of 300kg/m2. The screed to have a nominal density of 80 kg/m2 and be either:

  • 65mm (min) sand:cement screed, or
  • 40mm proprietary screed The ceiling treatment must be a minimum single layer plasterboard (10kg/m2) fixed to resilient bars, fixed to timber battens.
Benefits:
  • Single layer solution
  • Building Regulations compliant acoustic performance can be achieved

Installation procedure

Apply Floorfoam Easy Edge Strip around the floor perimeter, using the pre cut fold to sit the base of the strip on the concrete floor system and the adhesive backing to hold the strip in position.

Starting in one corner, overlay the floor with the 10mm Polyfoam Floorfoam 10 resilient layer, tightly butting together joints ensuring there are NO GAPS at junctions and around any penetrations.

To reduce the risk of screed connection to the main structure, all joints MUST be taped.

The floor is then screeded to finish, taking care to ensure that the screed is totally isolated from the remaining structure especially at edges and wall junctions to prevent any acoustic transfer.

Ensure the Floorfoam Easy Edge Strip fully wraps around the screed and under second fix items (i.e. plasterboard and skirting) before trimming. During second fix take care to isolate door frames and skirtings, ensuring there are no gaps.

Please note: The performance of this construction could be compromised if flanking detail does not adequately control noise transfer. If required, Knauf Insulation can provide example details for amendment to suit your specific project.
