Ceiling soundproofing is becoming increasingly common as the ratio of flats to houses rises. Many houses are now being converted to make apartments and many new build complexes are being developed. As well as carpet, the use of floor finishes such as bare floorboards and laminate floors can often cause noise problems for the people living below. The most common problems are often from impact noise: caused by walking or running on the floor, or airborne noise such as music or television.
For impact noise from above the ideal solution would be the installation of in independent ceiling. This would provide a high level of reduction in both impact and airborne noise. To achieve reductions in impact noise from above it is crucial to isolate your new ceiling from the existing joists to reduce vibration of the impact traveling through to the new ceiling.
If ceiling height is an issue, another option would be to replace the existing ceiling. This would entail removing the existing ceiling, whether plasterboard or lathe and plaster. The next step would be to fill the ceiling void using the Dense Fibre Matting or Noise Stop Roll. The Soundbreaker Bars would then be attached to the joists and the ceiling panel such as the NSSC1 or the NSSC1+ would be hung on to the Soundbreaker Bars on skimmed to finish.
