We are commonly asked the same questions relating to soundproofing, in this section we hope to answer some of the more common questions and enable you to decide which are the right materials or systems for you to choose from our website.
Soundproofing enquiries can be categorised into two main problems airborne noise and impact noise.
- Airborne Noise- Sound waves vibrating through air. Typical sources of this type of noise are televisions, radios, talking, dogs barking etc. These sounds travel through the air, vibrate through a structure such as a wall or floor and come through the other side. Depending on the structure and the mass of the object the sound has passed through will determine the amount of sound that will be heard on the other side.
- Impact Noise- Sound that travels through a structure from impact directly on it. Typical sources of impact noise are from floors above such as footsteps on the floor, dropping things on the floor, cupboard doors closing or furniture being moved. A lack of separation in the existing structure is the main reason for impact noise being an issue.
