Sound Proofing Ceilings: Dense Fibre Matting Specification

Dense Fibre Matting (DFM)

Dense Fibre Matting

Description

An acoustic rock mineral wool slab bonded with a high performance binder, suitable for use in many applications including floors, walls, ceilings, roofs and many others.

Dense Fibre Matting (DFM) products are manufactured to a higher density than other mineral wool slabs and provide improved acoustic control across a wide range of frequencies.

Effective sound Insulation is essential requirement for modern life styles.  Excessive noise can increase stress, hinder speech and can cause its own form of environmental pollution.

DFM has been proven over many years to be the ideal insulation material for all applications where noise attenuation or noise absorption is needed; in domestic, commercial, manufacturing, industrial and environment situations. In addition to its acoustic properties, its well known thermal insulation and fire protection performance are inherent benefits.

This product is ideal for use as a stand alone infill in stud framework of walls, floor joists and occasionally suspended ceilings.  Its main purpose is to reduce airborne noise.

These slabs should not be confused with thermal insulation which comes in roll form.  Typical thermal insulation will only have a density of approximately 15kg/m3.  We supply and recommend the slab form only, which can vary in density, but starts at a minimum of 100kg/m3.  This density is the key to the superior reduction which the acoustic mineral wool provides over the thermal ‘roll’ insulation.

An acoustic rock mineral wool slab bonded with a high performance binder.  Benefits include:

1.  Non flammable
2.  Chemically inert
3.  Rot proof
4.  Will not encourage any bacteria, mould or fungi growth and it does not sustain vermin

Test results can vary but it has been successfully and constantly found that DFM can provide improvements of between 150 - 300% when used in studwork, floor/ceiling joists and under roof structures.

Thickness of 50, 75, 100mm are available.  Prices vary accordingly.  The most commonly used is 100mm when applied inside timber joist constructions.
