Fitting

  • Remove the existing ceiling to expose the ceiling joist.
  • Fill the cavity between the joists with the 100mm DFM acoustic insulation slabs, acoustic slabs will friction fit if cut larger than the opening.
  • Screw the AcoustiClip into the ceiling joists. Space the clips across the joists to a maximum of 900mm (every other joist) and 150mm from the edge of the wall. The maximum space between the AcoustiChannel should be no more than 600mm (see the diagram below)
  • Clip the AcoustiChannel into the clips, join the lengths of the channel by overlapping them by 100mm and screwing them together with self-tapping or drywall screws.
  • Screw the 15mm soundboard into the AcoustChannel and then the Noisestop 1 Plus Panel 18mm over the top. Leave a 2-3mm gap around the ceiling’s perimeter to reduce noise transfer into the adjoining walls.
  • Acoustic sealant is applied between each of the acoustic panels and to the perimeter of the ceiling to ensure an airtight seal.
  • Finish the system in the usual way you would finish standard plasterboard. The panels are supplied with tapered edges, which allows for dry lining or plastering.

Fitting AcoustiClips

When installing AcoustiClips and AcoustiChannels, it is essential to ensure that the maximum distance between the channels does not exceed 600mm. Additionally, the maximum distance between the AcoustiClips along the length of the AcoustiChannel should not exceed 900mm.

For ceilings with timber joists, we recommend fitting an AcoustiClip to approximately every other joist along the joist length and ensuring a maximum distance of 600mm between the clips and 900mm distance along the channels.

The best method of soundproofing a ceiling is to use a combination of products in a soundproof system.

Soundproof systems will add mass, increase sound absorption and decouple the existing structure from the new.

Unless you have very high ceilings, you will probably need to remove the plasterboard or lathe and plaster to soundproof your ceiling effectively.

Removing the existing ceiling will allow you to use acoustic insulation inside the ceiling joist, which is a great way to add mass. Using the AcoustiClip system, you will decouple the ceiling, which isolates the joist from the new ceiling.

Removing the ceiling means you can use the AcoustiClip Timber Ceiling System, our recommended solution.

If you are using downlighters in your ceiling, you should fit acoustic/fire hoods over the lights to ensure the acoustic integrity of the ceiling.

Stopping impact sound through the floor above is difficult to stop from below. In an ideal world, you would soundproof the floors to stop the impact sound. If you can’t access the floor, the best solution is to install a ceiling isolated from the existing.

If you have very high ceilings, you could install a completely new ceiling with joists without connection to the existing ceiling. If this option does not apply, you must use a system that isolates the new ceiling even if it is in contact with the joist.

The best solution for achieving isolation is to use The AcoustiClip Timber Ceiling System.

How will my order be delivered?

The majority of orders we despatch are sent on pallets. We use a network of pallet distribution companies across the UK. All our pallet deliveries are kerbside deliveries. This means the pallet will be delivered as near to the delivery address as possible. Pallets are unloaded from the vehicles with a pallet truck. If it is possible the pallets can be dropped on driveways if they are accessible with the pallet truck.

Pallet deliveries are typically made on 7.5-tonne vehicles that are similar in size to bin lorries. Occasionally larger vehicles are used. If you know of any reason why it might be difficult to deliver to your address with this type of vehicle, please let us know so we can pass the information on to the delivery company. Typical delivery problems can include parking restrictions, access issues for certain size vehicles, low bridges and overhanging trees. Call 01423 339163 if you are unsure.

Unfortunately, the delivery drivers will not bring the goods into your property or unload the individual items from the pallets.

Many of our heavy items require two people to carry them safely.

All orders sent on pallets are wrapped and secured to the pallet to protect them while in transit. Once you have received your order, we would recommend storing the materials inside. If you plan on leaving your goods outside, you should use additional coverage to protect them from adverse weather conditions.

    Damaged or missing items

If items are damaged or missing when your order arrives, you should sign damaged or missing items on the driver’s paperwork. Call 01423339163 to let us know of the issue to allow us to rectify the problem quickly.

We might ask for a picture of the damage to speed up the process of arranging a suitable solution.

To enable us to resolve any issues with your delivery, it is essential that you sign for your delivery when it arrives.

    Returns

Can I return items from my order? Yes, you can return unused items from your order that are in a salable condition. We can arrange to collect unused materials and bring them back to us. We would refund the cost of the items returned back to us, less the shipping cost incurred by the company collecting the items. The cost to return the goods would be confirmed at the point of arranging the return. The refund would be paid once the goods have been brought back and have been checked at our warehouse.

Alternatively, you can arrange to return the materials back to us, and we will issue a refund once they have been received.
