System Performance

Noisestop F7 Plus will offer a significant reduction over standard floor constructions. When used as part of a flooring system for Building Regulations, it will ensure Part E compliance for new builds and conversions.

According to the figures, the Noisestop F7 Plus effectively reduces airborne and impact sounds by reducing 53dB for airborne sounds and 50dB for impact sounds. This solution meets Part E compliance standards and effectively blocks clear airborne sounds and heavy impact noises.

Performance data for the Noisestop F7 Plus used over a timber floor. The higher the figure for airborne, the better the performance. The lower the figure for impact, the better the performance.

Note: Every 10 decibels(dB) reduction in noise level is roughly perceived as a halving of the perceived loudness. So, for instance, if you have a sound that measures 70dB and it decreases to 60dB, it would sound about half as loud to the human ear.

Floor Finishes

Carpet as the floor finish

Noisestop acoustic underlays can be used directly below the carpet. When installing the soundproof underlay, you should consider using the perimeter edging strip to ensure the gripper rods are at the same height as the carpet. The gripper rods and the perimeter edging should be nailed to the floor using a 30mm nail.

Hard floor finishes less than 15mm

Hard floor finishes, including laminate, engineered, and tiles, should use a resilient layer between the soundproofing and the floor finish. We recommend a sheet material such as 6mm ply or interlocking MDF. The layers are secured using a floor-grade adhesive such as Isobond floor adhesive. To prevent potential flanking sound from transmitting from the floor to the walls, isolate the flooring using isolation tape fixed to the wall.

Hard floor finishes of more than 15mm

Floor finishes over 15mm can be installed directly on the soundproof mats. Secure the flooring using the Isobond adhesive. To prevent potential flanking sound from transmitting from the floor to the walls, isolate the flooring using isolation tape fixed to the wall.

Fitting Noisestop F7 Plus

  • Laid directly over the existing sub-floor
  • Loose laid no requirement to bond to the floor. Part E requires bonding for new builds and conversions
  • Butt the edges together
  • Reduce movement with High Tack Tape along the joins
  • Cut to size using a sharp knife or a fine toothsaw

Alternative Solutions

We also offer alternative floor soundproofing solutions that will provide different noise reduction levels or another installation method that might suit your requirements.

Floor Soundproofing

Make sure you are getting the right soundproofing for your needs. Understanding the most common types of noise and how to stop them will help you decide the right solution.

Different Types of Sound

  • Airborne sounds – Conversation, TV noise and radios are examples of airborne sound. The best way to stop airborne sounds is to add mass/density to the walls or ceilings.
  • Impact/vibration sounds – Footfall and moving furniture across a floor are examples of impact sounds. The best way to reduce these sounds is to create separation.

In summary, the best way to reduce airborne sounds is by increasing the mass of the area you would like to soundproof. Reducing impact/vibration sounds is achieved by creating separation within the structure.

Reducing Impact and Airborne Sounds

By following some of these steps, you will ensure you get the best level of soundproofing for your room.

  • Mass/Density – Increasing the mass and density of the area you are soundproofing will block airborne sounds from transferring between rooms. You will increase the mass of walls and ceilings using materials such as soundproof panels or high-density acoustic insulation slabs.
  • Separation – Incorporating separation within the structure will reduce vibration and impact sounds transferring between rooms. Achieve separation by building independent stud walls and ceilings. If you don’t have the space in the room, you can use acoustic clips and resilient channels to decouple the wall and ceiling.
  • Absorption – Use materials that are going to absorb sounds. Acoustic insulation is suitable for sound absorption as it converts the sound waves into heat as it passes through the insulation. Dense mass loaded barriers will also dampen and absorb sound.

How will my order be delivered?

The majority of orders we despatch are sent on pallets. We use a network of pallet distribution companies across the UK. All our pallet deliveries are kerbside deliveries. This means the pallet will be delivered as near to the delivery address as possible. Pallets are unloaded from the vehicles with a pallet truck. If it is possible the pallets can be dropped on driveways if they are accessible with the pallet truck.

Pallet deliveries are typically made on 7.5-tonne vehicles that are similar in size to bin lorries. Occasionally larger vehicles are used. If you know of any reason why it might be difficult to deliver to your address with this type of vehicle, please let us know so we can pass the information on to the delivery company. Typical delivery problems can include parking restrictions, access issues for certain size vehicles, low bridges and overhanging trees. Call 01423 339163 if you are unsure.

Unfortunately, the delivery drivers will not bring the goods into your property or unload the individual items from the pallets.

Many of our heavy items require two people to carry them safely.

All orders sent on pallets are wrapped and secured to the pallet to protect them while in transit. Once you have received your order, we would recommend storing the materials inside. If you plan on leaving your goods outside, you should use additional coverage to protect them from adverse weather conditions.

    Damaged or missing items

If items are damaged or missing when your order arrives, you should sign damaged or missing items on the driver’s paperwork. Call 01423339163 to let us know of the issue to allow us to rectify the problem quickly.

We might ask for a picture of the damage to speed up the process of arranging a suitable solution.

To enable us to resolve any issues with your delivery, it is essential that you sign for your delivery when it arrives.

    Returns

Can I return items from my order? Yes, you can return unused items from your order that are in a salable condition. We can arrange to collect unused materials and bring them back to us. We would refund the cost of the items returned back to us, less the shipping cost incurred by the company collecting the items. The cost to return the goods would be confirmed at the point of arranging the return. The refund would be paid once the goods have been brought back and have been checked at our warehouse.

Alternatively, you can arrange to return the materials back to us, and we will issue a refund once they have been received.

Do I need to glue the product to the floor?

Answer: You don't have to glue Noisestop F7+ to the floor unless you are complying with current Party 'e' Building Regulations. If you are carrying out general floor soundproofing you don't need to fix the product down.

Can I use Noisestop F7+ over any type of floor?

Answer: This acoustic underlay can be laid over any type of sub floor. Use the Noisestop F7+ over concrete and timber flooring.

Can I lay hard floor finishes over this product?

Answer: This product is suitable for hard floor finishes. If you are laying thin laminate flooring over the product we would recommend using a minimum of 9mm ply over the product. this will protect the floor finish in case of movement in the floor. If your flooring is less than 15mm thick you should consider using a sheet material over the F7+. You can nail through the product if required, the composition of the F7+ will stop sound transfer through the fixings.

Is the material easy to cut?

Answer: You can cut this product with a stanley knife or a sharp pair of scissors.

Can I use this product with my under floor heating?

Answer: If you are installing your under floor heating system at the same time as the soundproof flooring you should put the heating system over the soundproofing. Soundproof underlays would block and absorb the heat as it tries to pass through the material. The soundproofing would have the same noise reduction below the heating system. We would recommend you speak to the floor heating company before any work commences
