Acoustic insulation Dense Fibre Matting (DFM) is an essential product in any soundproofing project. DFM sound insulation slabs increase the sound insulation for walls and improves the acoustic insulation between floors. When you soundproof walls acoustic slabs combined with soundproof wall panels offer the best soundproofing for walls. To soundproof floors and ceilings insert DFM slabs between the joists for effective floor sound insulation. DFM acoustic slabs will friction fit if cut slightly larger than the stud cavity or floor joist. As well acoustic properties DFM is a non combustible product with a class ‘o’ fire rating.
Please Note: the 25mm DFM is only available in the 100kg/m³ density.
Dense Fibre Matting (DFM) acoustic insulation 1200mm x 600mm slabs
High density acoustic slab range available in a variety of thicknesses and densities. DFM Slabs are classified as non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984) and Euroclass A1, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7 1997 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations.
• Install between timber/metal studs or between floor/ceiling joists
• Cut to size and friction fit
• Airborne sound insulation
• Variety of thicknesses and densities
• Non combustible product
• DFM is sold per slab
• All slabs are 1200mm x 600 mm
• Thickness mm 25, 50, 75 & 100
• Density kg/m³ 45, 60, 80, 100, 140
DFM slabs are simple to fit, cut the slabs slightly larger than the opening and friction fit inside the cavity. Cut slabs to size using a hand saw or a sharp knife.
The DFM range comes with a choice of density, this is how compacted the slab is (not the weight). The range in density is kg/m³ from 45, 60, 80 100 & 140. The easiest way to understand which one to choose would be to assume the higher the density the better the overall level of soundproofing. We would recommend the 80kg/m³ as this offers the best sound insulation for the money spent.
Why would you choose DFM acoustic insulation?
DFM acoustic slabs are one of the best ways of improving the sound insulation in a room. If you are trying to soundproof a room DFM would be an essential product to insulate inside the cavities.
