Acoustic insulation Dense Fibre Matting (DFM) is an essential product in any soundproofing project. DFM sound insulation slabs increase the sound insulation for walls and improves the acoustic insulation between floors. When you soundproof walls acoustic slabs combined with soundproof wall panels offer the best soundproofing for walls. To soundproof floors and ceilings insert DFM slabs between the joists for effective floor sound insulation. DFM acoustic slabs will friction fit if cut slightly larger than the stud cavity or floor joist. DFM acoustic slabs are fire rated class ‘o’ non combustible.

This insulation offers thermal as well as acoustic insulation.

Please Note: The 60mm DFM is only available in the 160kg/m³ density.

DFM is available in a range of thicknesses to suit any application for stud walls and ceiling joists. We would recommend the 100mm DFM for floor and ceiling applications as this meets Part E requirements. Walls can be insulated using any thickness that will go inside the depth of stud to be used. Use DFM to stop flanking sound by fitting slabs between floor joists against party walls.

The DFM range comes with a choice of density, this is how compacted the slab is (not the weight). The range in density is kg/m³ from 45, 60, 80 100 & 140. The easiest way to understand which one to choose would be to assume the higher the density the better the overall level of soundproofing. We would recommend the 80kg/m³ as this offers the best sound insulation for the money spent.

Fitting DFM is simple; it can be cut with a hand saw or sharp knife. The products will friction fit if cut slightly larger than the opening.

DFM Slabs are classified as non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984) and Euroclass A1, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7 1997 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations.
