Noisestop 2+ panel
Noisestop 2+ panel is part of the Noisestop direct to wall soundproofing range. The combination of two layers acoustic plasterboard and the mass loaded vinyl centre will block and absorb airborne sounds. Acoustic plasterboard is made to a higher density than normal plasterboard. Therefore it is much better at stopping sound transmission than normal plasterboard.
The centre of the Noisestop 2+ panel is a 5mm high density vinyl. The centre of the panel blocks sound that would normally transfer through walls, it also reduces vibration of the plasterboard. When sound hits a solid surface the sound waves vibrate, by reducing this vibration the panel reduces the over all level of sound.
- DIY soundproofing
- Thin soundproofing solution or walls, can be applied to ceilings
- 1 hour fire rating
- 48dB reduction
- Noisy neighbour solution
- Part E compliant for separating walls
- Bond directly to walls using plasterboard adhesive
If you have a limited amount of space it isn’t always possible to use soundproofing systems that combine various acoustic products. Rooms that require soundproofing in your home, or work place environments like offices and meeting rooms with limited space can benefit from this type of soundproofing.
Slim direct to wall boards reduce conversation or television sound from passing between rooms. As a stand alone soundproofing solution the Noisestop 2+ panel is an ideal choice if you need to increase the sound insulation of a room.
Fitting Noisestop 2+ panels
The most common application for the Noisestop 2+ panel is direct to walls, this means bonding them directly on to the walls surface with plasterboard adhesive. By using this method you reduce the possibility of sound transferring through screw fixings. These boards can also be used to upgrade acoustic wall systems by fitting them to studs or soundbreaker bars. If you are soundproofing ceilings use these panels over an existing ceiling, or as part of a new acoustic ceiling.
- Apply directly on to walls using plasterboard adhesive
- Screw panels on to stud frames, soundbreaker bars or ceiling joists
- Plaster directly on to the panel
- Tapered edges mean you can tape and fill the edges as an alternative to plastering
Fit Noisestop 2+ panels directly on to your walls using plasterboard adhesive. This type of application, referred to as dot and dab means there is no need or mechanical fixings. Apply the plasterboard adhesive as per the instructions on the bag. Adhesive can be applied to the wall in fist size dabs use a minimum of 9 dabs per board. Ensure the boards are level as you apply them. Use the acoustic sealant along the edge of each board as you install them and around the perimeter of the wall. Cut the panels using a hand saw or circular saw to shape.
Use Noisestop 2+ panels as part of an acoustic wall or ceiling soundproofing system, this will require them being fixed to stud walls, ceiling joists or soundbreaker bars. Use dry wall or universal screws to apply the boards to these structures. If you are fitting the panels on to ceilings they will require a minimum of 16 screws per board. Once the panels have been fitted you can plaster or tape and fill the tapered edges prior to decorating.
Noisestop Tip – Apply the acoustic sealant to the edge of each board as you install them before you put the next one up. By applying the sealant as you go you will ensure a really good acoustic seal at the end. Once you have finished you can go round filling any small areas that require filling.

Reduce flanking noise
When you are considering any form of wall soundproofing you should take into account flanking sound. Sound travels around a building through any cavities it can find, one of the easiest ways for sound to pass through is between floor cavities. Sound transferring through these areas is flanking sound. When you soundproof a wall you should consider reducing the chance of sound transferring through floor cavities between the floor joists.
If your floor joists are shared with a neighbouring property it is easy or sound to transfer through the floor. If you are soundproofing a party wall you should check to see if floor joists are going through to your neighbours property. Do this by checking which way your floorboards are running. If they run in the same direction as the wall the chances are you floor joists will be running into the wall, this will increase the chance of flanking sound transferring between the properties.
The easiest way to reduce flanking sound through your floors is to insulate between the floor joists. Remove a few floor boards up against the wall and fill the cavity against the wall with acoustic insulation 80kg/m³ would be a suitable density of slab to use. Fit the slabs against the wall, coming back into the room approximately 600mm, or the width off a slab.
