Performance Data

Untreated brick wall DnT,w

Single skin 100mm brick wall 38db

Treated brick wall DnT,w

Noisestop 1 Plus Panel applied 42dB

Improvement DnT,w

Noise reduction with treatment 4dB

Note: Every 10 decibels(dB) reduction in noise level is roughly perceived as a halving of the perceived loudness. So, for instance, if you have a sound that measures 70dB and it decreases to 60dB, it would sound about half as loud to the human ear.

Fitting Noisestop 1 Plus Panels

NOTE: When the acoustic plasterboard panel is installed, the plasterboard layer faces into the room, and the acoustic membrane on the back of the board goes onto the wall or ceiling. This panel is best suited for use with AcoustiClips, soundbreaker bars or timber and metal stud frames to form an acoustic system for walls and ceilings.

The Noisestop 1 Plus Panel works best when installed as part of a complete system for walls or ceilings.

  • Ensure the surface you are applying the panels is in good condition, make good any remedial work to the existing wall to ensure it is flat and secure before you attach the panels
  • Remove skirting boards, coving and extend electrical outlets, wall linings such as wallpaper do not need to be removed before the installation.
  • Fix the panels to acoustic hangers, stud frames or ceiling joists using standard dry-wall screws. You should use Hammer Fixings, nine per board to fit the boards directly onto solid walls; alternatively, use the Smart Tack adhesive for flat finished walls, one tin per five boards.
  • Leave a 2-3mm gap around the perimeter of the wall to reduce flanking sound transmission, apply an acoustic sealant to fill the gap once the installation is complete.
  • Cut the panels using a hand saw or circular saw.
  • Skim plaster or tape and fill the tapered edge.
  • Upon completion of the soundproofing, reinstate the skirting and coving.
  • If you are reinstating electrical outlets, use acoustic putty pads inside recessed back boxes.

NOTE ON FLANKING SOUND – Before installing any soundproofing system, it is important to consider any flanking paths for the sound. These are areas around the wall where sound will bypass the soundproofing and enter the room. The most common flanking path for sounds would be above or below the wall, this would be through a floor or ceiling cavity. If these areas are constructed from timber joists, you should consider filling the cavities above or below the area with DFM acoustic insulation to stop potential flanking noise.

Essential Soundproofing Rules

Achieve the very best wall soundproofing results by following these essential soundproofing rules. These are adding mass/density to the area, isolating or decoupling the new structure from the existing and increasing sound absorption. These rules of soundproofing apply whether you are attempting to soundproof a stud wall or solid brick walls. Increasing mass makes it harder for the sound to transfer. The variety of high-mass products will block a great range of sounds. Decoupling the structure will reduce sound as it vibrates through a solid structure. Increasing absorption allows the wall to absorb the sound energy. These soundproofing principles are built into the design and specification of our wall soundproofing products and systems.

Mass/Density

Adding mass/density to an area blocks sound transfer. Using materials with different densities will reduce a greater range of frequencies.

Isolation

Creating isolation or decoupling the existing structure from the new enhances sound insulation.

Absorption

Increase sound absorption with materials that absorb sound waves and reduce the energy that carries the sound.

Soundproofing Walls FAQs

The best way to soundproof a wall is to block the sound transmission from one room to another. The most effective methods to soundproof walls are:

Add mass: increasing the density of the wall by adding mass. Use mass loaded vinyl, soundproof plasterboards and high density acoustic insulation to enhance the sound insulation.

Decoupling: By isolating the existing structure from the new wall, you will reduce the vibration sound that transmits through the wall. The AcoustiClip system is the best method of decoupling walls and ceilings.

Sound absorption: The walls ability to absorb sound waves is crucial in noise reduction. Product combinations work best for overall sound absorption or sound dampening. Acoustic insulation and soundproof membranes will dampen and absorb sound waves as they come into contact with them.

All our solutions are designed to incorporate as many of these as possible.

The best way to soundproof party walls and internal stud walls is to use a soundproof system that combines materials to offer the highest level of noise reduction.

We recommend the AcosutClip System to soundproof any wall. The systems incorporate all the soundproofing products to ensure exceptional noise reduction against airborne and vibration noise. Provided with the systems are the AcoustiClip, AcoustiChannel, acoustic insulation, Noisestop 1+ Panels, acoustic plasterboard 15mm and acoustic sealants.

We have the AcoustiClip Direct System, our most popular solution for party walls. If you require soundproofing for excessively noisy neighbours or studios, we have the AcoustiClip Solid Wall System. The AcoustiClip Stud Wall System will restore privacy within your home for internal stud partitions.

Our slimmest wall soundproofing solutions are the Noisestop Sielnt Panel or Wall System 2.

Silent Panel 30mm: The Noisestop Silent offers the best acoustic performance of wall soundproofing panels. At only 30mm thick, it can be used to soundproof walls in the tightest of spaces.

Wall System 2: Our thinnest solution combining soundproofing materials is Wall System 2. If you have limited space and require maximum sound insulation this is our recommended solution.

All our products and systems for walls and ceilings are supplied with acoustic plasterboard as the final finish. This type of plasterboard can be finished in the same way as standard plasterboards.

The acoustic plasterboards have a tapered edge which allows for taping and jointing if you want to avoid having them plastered.

Yes, you can reinstate electrical outlets into any of our soundproofing solutions.

We can provide acoustic putty pads for the electrical back boxes for single and double sockets.

You can use your wall as any other wall when attaching lightweight items.

For heavier objects like wall-mounted TVs, you must secure them to the structural wall behind the soundproofing. Direct sound transmission through these fixings would typically be minimised due to the mass and absorption of the soundproof panels.

How will my order be delivered?

The majority of orders we despatch are sent on pallets. We use a network of pallet distribution companies across the UK. All our pallet deliveries are kerbside deliveries. This means the pallet will be delivered as near to the delivery address as possible. Pallets are unloaded from the vehicles with a pallet truck. If it is possible the pallets can be dropped on driveways if they are accessible with the pallet truck.

Pallet deliveries are typically made on 7.5-tonne vehicles that are similar in size to bin lorries. Occasionally larger vehicles are used. If you know of any reason why it might be difficult to deliver to your address with this type of vehicle, please let us know so we can pass the information on to the delivery company. Typical delivery problems can include parking restrictions, access issues for certain size vehicles, low bridges and overhanging trees. Call 01423 339163 if you are unsure.

Unfortunately, the delivery drivers will not bring the goods into your property or unload the individual items from the pallets.

Many of our heavy items require two people to carry them safely.

All orders sent on pallets are wrapped and secured to the pallet to protect them while in transit. Once you have received your order, we would recommend storing the materials inside. If you plan on leaving your goods outside, you should use additional coverage to protect them from adverse weather conditions.

    Damaged or missing items

If items are damaged or missing when your order arrives, you should sign damaged or missing items on the driver’s paperwork. Call 01423339163 to let us know of the issue to allow us to rectify the problem quickly.

We might ask for a picture of the damage to speed up the process of arranging a suitable solution.

To enable us to resolve any issues with your delivery, it is essential that you sign for your delivery when it arrives.

    Returns

Can I return items from my order? Yes, you can return unused items from your order that are in a salable condition. We can arrange to collect unused materials and bring them back to us. We would refund the cost of the items returned back to us, less the shipping cost incurred by the company collecting the items. The cost to return the goods would be confirmed at the point of arranging the return. The refund would be paid once the goods have been brought back and have been checked at our warehouse.

Alternatively, you can arrange to return the materials back to us, and we will issue a refund once they have been received.

How do you cut the boards to fit?

Answer: The soundproof boards are easy to cut using a sharp stanley knife or a hand saw. You can use jigsaws and circular saws if you have them. You do not need any special cutting tools.

How do you attach the boards to the Soundbreaker Bars?

Answer: The boards are screwed straight on to the bars, there is no pre-drilling required. Once you have fixed the bars in place screw through the boards into the bars. The wide corrugated fixing area on the bar acts as the stud frame holding the boards in place. The panels can be fitted to bars on walls and ceilings in this way. You can use dry wall screws or any universal type screw to attach the boards.

What is the best way of finishing these soundproof panels?

Answer: All the soundproof panels in the Noisestop range come with an acoustic plasterboard outer face which has a tapered edge. The boards can either be plastered or the edge can be taped and filled ready to decorate.

Can I attach things on to the wall afterwards?

Answer: Once you have completed the work you can treat the wall as you would any other wall. Try to avoid too many fixing going through the wall as this may cause sound transfer. Suitable plugs and screws should be used to fix to the wall, we would recommend plasterboard plugs be used for hanging lightweight items.

Can I stick these boards directly on to the wall?

Answer: If you are looking for a thin soundproofing solution you can use an adhesive to stick these panels to your walls. We recommend the Smart tack adhesive for this type of installation.

What do you use these soundproof panels for?

Answer: This type of panel can be used as a stand alone product to stop low levels of airborne sound transfer. These boards are widely used in our wall and ceiling soundproofing kits as part of a combination of products to build acoustic walls and ceilings. Combine these panels with DFM acoustic insulation, Soundbreaker Bars and acoustic sealants for the best results.
