Soundproofing the walls in your home office

Because most home offices are not normally the largest room in the house, we recommend some of our slimmer wall soundproofing solutions. The solutions below are effective at reducing general household noises coming through a party wall. We have also included a solution to soundproof any internal stud walls of your home office.

Soundproofing the floor and ceiling in your home office

Depending on the position of your office in the home, or if you live in a flat, you might need to reduce noise coming through the floor or ceiling. If you are trying to block impact sound from above, you should use a floor soundproofing solution to solve the problem. Impact sound is resolved by stopping the sound of footfall before it transfers to the rooms below. If you are trying to soundproof your home office against airborne sound, you can soundproof the ceiling. Take a look at some of the solutions to soundproof the ceiling in your office, as well as solutions for the floor above your office space.

Soundproof the door to your home office

The door to your home office could be the weakest point as far as sound reduction. You have a couple of options when it comes to soundproofing the doors in your home. Firstly you could upgrade the existing door you have. If you have lightweight hollow doors in your home, the sound will easily pass through; try increasing the door’s mass by adding a soundproof sheet or one of our soundproof panels. It is also important to make sure the door closes into the reveal without any gaps. Check this by waiting until it’s dark, turn the light on in your office, step outside the room and shut the door. If you can see the light around the edges of the door, you should consider adding a draught excluder seal. This will help reduce the amount of sound that will leak through that area.

Fire doors will block more sound than standard domestic doors

If you have the budget to replace the door, you should consider using a fire-rated door. These are heavy solid doors that will block more sound than standard domestic doors.
