Acoustic sealant is a flexible, airtight resin used to maintain acoustic integrity in soundproofing systems and to fill gaps around plasterboard walls and ceilings, reducing noise. It fills gaps, cracks, edges, and panel perimeters to prevent sound leakage through walls and ceilings. Our acoustic sealants are supplied in two tube sizes: 310ml (standard) and 900ml (large). The 900ml tube requires a jumbo sealant applicator. One 310ml tube is typically enough to acoustically seal around five 1200mm x 1200mm soundproof panels (1.44sqm each).
- Tube sizes: 310mm and 900ml
Acoustic sealants
Flexible, Airtight Sealants for Acoustic Panels – Ideal for Walls and Ceilings. Acoustic sealant is a vital tool in reducing noise. This high-strength, permanently flexible mastic (a type of resin) is designed to maintain airtightness and prevent sound leakage when soundproofing plasterboard walls and ceilings. Specially formulated for use around the edges and perimeters of walls, ceilings and soundproofing panels, it ensures long-lasting acoustic integrity – and calmer, more peaceful rooms.
Application areas: Panel edges, gaps, cracks, joints
Seal type: Airtight and flexible
Sizes available: 310ml (standard), 900ml (large)
Tools required: Standard or jumbo sealant gun, depending on size
Installation: DIY friendly
Benefits
- Permanently flexible for long-lasting performance
- High initial grab for secure application
- Bonds to most common building surfaces
- Mould resistant for added durability
- Non-flammable and fire-rated for safety
- Overpaintable for a clean, seamless finish
- Easy to clean up during installation
Areas for Use
Use this high-strength acoustic sealant to create an effective sound barrier by sealing gaps between plasterboard walls, floors, and ceilings. It is also ideal for dry lining applications and suitable for both domestic and commercial soundproofing projects.
Limitations
- Damp or humid conditions will significantly extend cure time
- Do not abrade the product once cured
- Do not overpaint until fully cured (typically 24 hours, or 4–5 days in cold, damp, or humid conditions)
- Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C
- For overhead boarding, always use it in conjunction with mechanical fixings
Surface Preparation
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust
- Remove any loose or flaking coatings, old sealant, or mastic joints before application
- Prime highly porous surfaces (e.g. new plaster) with a PVA bond diluted 1:4 with water
- Surfaces can be slightly damp but must not be wet
- Note: Damp surfaces will significantly slow the curing process
Application:
This dual-action sealant and adhesive is easy to self-apply.
For 310ml tubes:
- Cut the cartridge tip carefully without damaging the thread
- Attach the nozzle and cut it cleanly at a 45° angle
For 900ml tubes:
- Insert the cartridge into a jumbo sealant applicator
- Cut the nozzle to the desired length
- Puncture the inner membrane seal before use
Use as a sealant:
Always cut the nozzle to size slightly larger than the gap to be sealed. Apply to the gap, slightly overfilling and finish smooth with a caulking tool or filler knife.
Clean up any excess with a damp cloth within 30 minutes of application.
Tested to BS EN 1366-3:2004 and BS EN 1366-4:2006, this acoustic sealant can achieve up to 4 hours of fire integrity and insulation for a variety of linear and penetration seals.
It also meets BS EN ISO 10140-2:2010 standards for airborne sound insulation, helping to maintain the performance of plasterboard partition walls with a Sound Reduction Index of 55dB.
Features
- Solvent-free formulation
- Permanently flexible and non-shrinking
- Maintains acoustic and fire integrity
- Conforms to EN 1366-3, EN 1366-4, and EN ISO 10140-2:2010
- Up to 4-hour fire rating achievable
