Dense Fibre Matting (DFM) Acoustic Insulation Slabs are high-density soundproofing insulation slabs designed to reduce airborne sound transmission and control resonance within wall, floor, and ceiling cavities.
These versatile slabs are ideal for soundproofing solutions in domestic and commercial spaces, available in thicknesses from 25mm to 100mm and densities from 45kg/m³ to 140kg/m³.
Their robust construction absorbs and blocks sound, making them a top choice for enhancing acoustic performance within stud walls and floor joist cavities.
- Soundproofing: Wall soundproofing, floor soundproofing, ceiling soundproofing
- Noise type: Airborne noise (TV, radio, conversation, lower-medium noise levels)
- Noise reduction: Varies
- Size: Per slab 100mm x 1200mm x 600mm (0.72sqm)
- Pack varies depending on the density
- Installation: DIY friendly
DFM Acoustic Insulation Slabs – High-Density Soundproofing for Walls, Floors & Ceilings
Our DFM Acoustic Insulation is best used for soundproofing walls, floors, and ceilings. It can also be used inside stud walls, between ceiling joists, below floorboards, and in most soundproof systems.
DFM sound insulation slabs block and absorb sounds from transferring between rooms. We offer DFM Panels in a variety of sizes: 25mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm.
- Thickness 25mm up too 100mm
- Density 45-140kg/m3 – This is not the weight of the pack or slab; it is the weight of the material if it were a meter cubed
- Slab size 1200mm x 600mm x 100mm (0.72sqm per slab)
- Fire rating Non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984) and Euroclass A1, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7 1997 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations
- Thermal conductivity 0.034 W/mK
When handling fibrous acoustic slabs, we recommend wearing gloves, especially if you have sensitive skin, to avoid mild irritation.
Before installation, check that the insulation thickness matches the cavity depth. Never compress slabs into a cavity that’s too shallow. For example, avoid fitting a 100mm slab into a 75mm space. Full cavity fill is not required for effective soundproofing.
Cutting and fitting the slabs is simple. Use a serrated knife (an old bread knife works well) to cut each slab slightly wider than the opening. This allows the insulation to friction-fit securely between studs or joists. If extra support is needed, secure slabs with a few nails, screws, or a wire mesh.
This approach ensures maximum acoustic performance without compromising installation quality.
Due to the nature of our materials, most orders are delivered on pallets.
Each order is securely wrapped and palletised to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.
Deliveries are made Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and goods will be dropped as close to the property as possible. Please note, drivers are unable to carry items indoors.
Palletised deliveries are charged at a flat rate of £60 + VAT, regardless of how many pallets are required. Smaller orders under 20kg are sent via courier at £20 + VAT.
We hold high stock levels and aim to deliver within 3–4 working days. Once your order is placed, you’ll receive confirmation of the expected delivery date. Please ensure someone is available to sign for the goods.
