50mm DFM Acoustic Insulation Slabs are high-density soundproofing insulation slabs designed to reduce airborne sound transmission and control resonance within wall, floor, and ceiling cavities. These versatile slabs are ideal for soundproofing solutions in domestic and commercial spaces, available in thicknesses from 25mm to 100mm and densities from 45kg/m³ to 140kg/m³. Their robust construction absorbs and blocks sound, making them a top choice for enhancing acoustic performance within stud walls and floor joist cavities.
- Soundproofing: Wall soundproofing, floor soundproofing, ceiling soundproofing
- Noise type: Airborne noise (TV, radio, conversation lower-medium noise levels)
- Noise reduction: Varies
- Size: Per slab 50mm x 1200mm x 600mm (0.72sqm)
- Pack varies depending on the density
- Installation: DIY friendly
DFM acoustic insulation is a high-density acoustic insulation suitable for soundproofing walls, floors, and ceilings. It is used inside stud walls, between ceiling joists, below floorboards, and in most soundproof systems. DFM sound insulation slabs block and absorb sounds from transferring between rooms.
DFM acoustic insulation slabs are an essential soundproofing material to increase the airborne sound insulation performance of walls, floors and ceilings. Because of its mass, density and sound absorption properties, acoustic insulation is used in soundproof systems inside ceiling cavities, stud walls and floor joists. Available in various thicknesses and densities, we recommend using the 60kg slabs for their acoustic performance.
- Thickness 50mm
- Density 45-140kg/m3 – This is not the weight of the pack or slab; it is the weight of the material if it were a meter cubed
- Slab size 1200mm x 600mm x 50mm (0.72sqm per slab)
- Fire rating Non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984) and Euroclass A1, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7 1997 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations
- Thermal conductivity 0.034 W/mK
As acoustic slabs are fibrous, handling them with gloves for sensitive skin is advisable to avoid mild irritation.
Before you begin, it is vital to check that you are using the correct thickness of acoustic insulation for the depth of the cavity. Do not compress the acoustic insulation inside a cavity that is not deep enough for the insulation; do not use a 100mm slab inside a 75mm cavity. There is no requirement to fill the cavity with insulation completely.
Acoustic slabs are easy to cut using a knife with a serrated edge. If you have an old bread knife, that would work well.
Cut the slabs wider than the opening between the studs or joist, and the slabs will friction fit. If required, a few well-placed nails or screws can be used to hold the slabs in place or a wire net.
