Description
DFM 50mm Acoustic Insulation
When it comes to soundproofing your home, you need the best! These 50mm acoustic insulation dense fibre matting (DFM) slabs are essential to any noise reduction project and can be used to insulate walls, floors and ceilings. For walls, combine with soundproof panels for the most effective sound reduction.
For floors and ceilings, place the slabs between joists. DFM acoustic slabs will friction fit if cut slightly larger than the stud cavity or floor joist. As well acoustic properties, DFM is a non-combustible product with a class ‘O’ fire rating.

Dense Fibre Matting (DFM) acoustic insulation 1200mm x 600mm slabs
The Noisestop high-density acoustic slab range is available in a variety of thicknesses and densities. DFM slabs are classified as non-combustible to BS 476: Part 4: 1970 (1984) and Euroclass A1, Class 1 Surface Spread of Flame to BS 476: Part 7 1997 and Class ‘O’ to the Building Regulations.
- Install between timber/metal studs or between floor/ceiling joists
- Cut to size and friction fit
- Airborne sound insulation
- Variety of thicknesses and densities
- Non-combustible product
- DFM is sold per slab
Slab size in mm and density kg/m³
- All slabs are 1200mm x 600mm
- Thickness mm 25, 50, 75 & 100
- Density kg/m³ 45, 60, 80, 100, 140
Fitting DFM
DFM slabs are easy to fit. Cut the slabs slightly larger than the opening, and friction fit inside the cavity. Cut slabs to size using a hand saw or a sharp knife.
The DFM range comes with a choice of density, and this is how compact the slab is (not the weight). The range in density is kg/m³ from 45, 60, 80 100 & 140. The easiest way to understand which one to choose would be to assume the higher the density, the better the overall level of soundproofing. We recommend the 60kg/m³ as this offers the best sound insulation for the money spent.
Why would you choose DFM acoustic insulation?
DFM acoustic slabs are one of the best ways of improving sound insulation in a room. If you are trying to soundproof a room, DFM would be essential to insulate inside the cavities.
